WalMart tech glitch, early Christmas for shoppers

Wal-MartAfter Amazon, Google, now it’s Walmart is making news due to glitches on its website. The company recently went through massive technical glitch which resulted in prices of various items being slashed down without reason, letting shoppers buy USD 600 computer projectors for USD 8.85 and treadmills for USD 33.

This tech issue, turned into an early Christmas for shoppers where they got the discounts that were too good to be true. Although company had denied sharing the details regarding the number of orders that were been placed during the time, but mentions that most of the affected products were electronics.

The items with slashed prices were available on the website for almost six hours.

Walmart has denied honoring any item that was mistakenly priced and when asked if Walmart is obligated to fulfill a completed credit card transaction, a spokesman pointed to its terms of use, which states: “We reserve the right to refuse or cancel an order for any reason including limitations on quantities available for purchase, inaccuracies, or errors in product or pricing information, or problems identified by our credit and fraud avoidance department.”

“Given the wide discrepancy in pricing, we are notifying customers who ordered these items that their orders have been canceled and that they’ll be refunded in full,” says the company.

The company will be offer shoppers a USD 10 gift card in return.

Previously Google went down for few minutes which killed 40% of its global internet traffic, and Amazon also lost around USD 5 Mn when its website went down for almost 45 minutes.
