Smarton Launches in India, offers Digital Commerce program in partnership with Pearl Academy

smartonIn order to cater the requirements of both industry and the students, e-learning segment has been gaining attraction of many entrepreneurs these days. In line with the existing players, we have got another venture by Chaitanya Chitta and Rakshit Kejriwal, SmartOn Learning. The portal was recently launched in Indian Market and is operational from New York and Hyderabad.

According to a research, less than 10% of MBA graduates are employable and 83% of engineering graduates are unfit for employment. Thus, it aims at addressing the demands of new-age sectors & careers to make the students career ready while they are in college.

SmartOn offers courses in blended format (combination of online & class-room based) on a Plug-and-play cloud based platform. The company is currently developing programs in Entrepreneurship, Data Analytics and Cyber Security and is in the process of executing partnerships with half a dozen private universities in India as clients.

The programs are offered in two tracks, viz. curriculum embedded courses and signature programs. In case of the embedded program approach, courses are integrated into existing curriculum of the education institutes. Signature Programs have strong application-oriented training that will result in certification.

The first program in India is being offered in partnership with Pearl Academy targeting e-commerce sector with a batch of 225 students. The choice makes sense as according to a recent KPMG report, a total of 1.5 million jobs in the e-tailing sector, both direct and indirect, would be created in India by 2021. Also, Digital Commerce industry is estimated to contribute 4% of Indian GDP by 2020, almost 800% growth from the current contribution of 0.46%.

The calender for next year includes Certificate program in Business Analytics(january 2014), CyberSecurity (March 2014) and Executive education programs (June 2014)

At present, the firm is partnered with brands such as Canvas, Learningmate, KPMG and Shopify. SmartOn is having a global team consisting of 15 people working in the areas of content development, instructional design & pedagogy, technology & platform development, international relations and Operations. Starting with the Indian market, SmartOn Learning plans to tap international markets subsequently.
