Leaving behind the tech city Bangalore, Mumbai has emerged as the city with the highest internet penetration with over 12 Mn users, followed by Delhi with 8.1 Mn internet users and Hyderabad with 4.7 Mn internet users.
According to report by IAMAI, Kolkata registered the highest Y-O-Y growth of internet users among all the top cities in India, by 47%, which was 3 Mn users in 2012 and has reached 4.4 Mn users this year. It managed to get the 5th rank among the cities with highest internet penetration after Chennai which had 4.5 Mn users.
Bangalore, with 3.8 Mn users is sixth in internet user penetration.

While Mumbai ranked second with 45% Y-O-Y growth, Bangalore third with a Y-O-Y growth of 43%, followed by Pune, with a growth of 37% and Delhi with a Y-O-Y growth of 35%.
Ahmedabad, with Y-O-Y 26%, registered lowest growth rate among the top eight cities.
According to IAMAI findings, the top 4 metros have a 37% penetration of Active Internet Users.
Whereas among the other 4 Metros, Hyderabad leads with a penetration of 37% Active Internet Users, Coimbatore with a 40% penetration leads in the Small Metros category.
