Sold, a Boston based startup company working to make online product selling easy, has recently been acquired by Dropbox. Terms of the deal have been kept undisclosed.
Envisioned to make it easier for people to sell their products online, Sold is a mobile app for Android and iOS platform that offers a price calculator to help users estimate how much their items would sell for, alongwith other online selling functions including handled selling, shipping, and payment.
The idea was to offer a painless automated online selling experience, where a user was required to upload just a photo and a brief description, everything else was taken care of by Sold.
Post acquisition, Sold said in an announcement that it will no longer be accepting items, making it unclear what’s next, whether the service will get absorbed into Dropbox or will just vanish under its new ownership.
“We decided that the move to Dropbox couldn’t be better — their road map includes exciting new experiences which align perfectly with our ethos of creating products that positively affect people,” the Sold team said on its Web site. “Going forward, the Sold team will continue working together to build these experiences, shaping the future of Dropbox for their 200 Mn strong user base. It’s an opportunity too good to pass up.”
