App roundup: MEA launches mPassport Seva Mobile App on Windows and Apple iOS platforms; redBus launches iOS app; ixigo redesigns and revamps app

MEA’s mPassport app comes to Windows and iOS platforms

Ministry of External Affairs which had earlier launched its mPassport Seva mobile app on Android platform, as a pilot project in March 2013, has now extended this app on Windows and Apple iOS platforms as well.

mPassport Seva, enables people to access Passport related information on Smartphones. The application provides services like status tracking, locating a Passport Office and other general information.

It provides information on various steps involved to obtain a passport related service and phone numbers in case of queries or concerns. Through the app, users can even search Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or District Passport Cell (DPC) in a district where a passport application can be submitted. It can also be used by citizens residing overseas who apply for a passport service in Indian Missions/Posts abroad.

There is also a Fee Calculator feature which enables users to find out the applicable fee based on the service and mode of submission. Users can track the status of their passport applications by providing File Number and Date of Birth. In case the passport has been dispatched, delivery status can also be tracked.

The app is available for free to download on Windows and iTunes.

redBus launches iOS app

After launching its Android app in February this year, online bus ticketing portal, redBus has now introduced its iOS app.

The iOS app will allow users to search and book for more than 10,000 routes. It will enable users to search, select and book buses, with multiple payment options including credit, debit, net banking and cash on delivery.

ixigo redesigns and revamps its app, travel planning and search engine portal has launched a redesigned and revamped version of its Android and iOS app. Its app allows travelers to find the hotel rates across 200,000+ hotels by comparing hotel booking site, cheapest flight tickets across all 100+ travel websites, etc. within a matter of a few clicks.

The app allows to compare information and prices from multiple travel sites, as well as show ratings and reviews aggregated from multiple hotel review websites. The app also features the semantic search functionality of ixigo’s website that intelligently deciphers natural language queries and answers them with a rich, useful mobile page as an output. Another useful feature is ‘Near me’ – which provides useful location-based information on stay, eat, shop and see options nearby to the traveler.

The application is available on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store for free.
