Looks like that TripAdvisor is now going to become the home for travel startups, as after acquiring Gateguru and the luxury travel site Jetsetter, Tripadvisor has acquired yet another startup under its wing, and this time it is New York based hotels review startups Oyster.com.
Oyster.com, is a hotel review website and has featured expert reviews and photos covering about 150 cities. According to the company, it delivers unbiased, expert information about hotels for which it sends its trained reviewers to visit, comprehensively photograph, critique and rate each hotel.
The financial terms of the deal have been left undisclosed and as a part of deal, post acquisition Oyster will continue to operate out of New York City and will be incorporated into Smarter Travel Media.
Oyster had raised around USD 23.4 Mn funding so far. The company was in news a few months back, Gawker had reported that the company had fired the entire editorial staff except the site’s editorial director and a couple of freelance engineers.
TripAdvisor is a US based travel advice and booking website. It gets around 260 Mn unique monthly visitors, and more than 100 Mn reviews and opinions covering more than 2.7 Mn accommodations, restaurants and attractions. Currently, the site operates in 34 countries worldwide.
