Startups and ideas that got funded passing week

So even this week i.e. 20th October to 26th October we have rounded up all the funding activities that made news.

Toronto based, OneClass is an eLearning startup, recently SAIF partners alongwith Real Ventures, and several angels have invested USD 1.6 Mn in Series A funding round. OneClass was founded in 2010, it provides a collaborative note, lecture and textbook platform for university students. Currently the startup has its presence in 50 schools across Canada and the US with 200,000 users.

 Blue Rooster

Enterprise solutions startup Blue Rooster is based in Seattle, it’s an interactive agency and technology company specializing in developing and driving adoption of Global 500 intranets. Blue Rooster has recently raised USD 3 Mn in private equity funding from PFU Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fujits. The company will soon be launching its office in Hong Kong.


Founded in 2012, Appsee is an Israel based mobile analytics startup, helping companies deliver the best possible customer and user experience in their mobile apps. Its customers include companies from a wide range of industries such as travel, news, gaming and real estate. Recently Appsee has raised USD 1 Mn in funding from Giza Venture Capital and angel investors including Moshe Lichtman.


HandyBook is an year old startup helping people to get ease from their household tasks, it helps people to book a pre-approved cleaner or handyman for their house chores. This New York based startup has closed a USD 2 Mn funding round led by Highland Capital and General Catalyst.


It has recently raised USD 40 Mn in a Series C funding round led by Meritech Capital Partners, Andreessen Horowitz, Ignition Partners, Highland Capital Partners and Intel Capital. Bromium is re-inventing enterprise security with its powerful new technology, micro-virtualization, which was designed to protect businesses from advanced malware, while simultaneously empowering users and delivering unmatched threat intelligence to IT. It is based out in California.


It’s a smartphone travel guide app that provides audio guided tours created by professional tour guides, free offline maps, hotels, restaurants and shopping information. The startup had recently crossed 150k downloads on iOS platform and had launched an Android app last week. Based in Israel, Tourpal has raised USD 1 Mn from a private angel investor.

Easy Taxi

Rocket Internet and iMENA Holding has recently invested USD 7 Mn in Easy Taxi to expand its operations in the Middle East. The startup was launched by Rocket Internet is 2011 and its apps are available for iOS, Android and BlackBerry platforms in over 15 markets throughout Latin America, Africa and Asia.


The startup was founded in 2011, and has recently raised USD 2.6 Mn in seed funding led by SoftTechVC, 500 Startups and Burrill & Co. BetterDoctor provides web and mobile apps that let one find the right doctor from a list of verified doctors nearby. Till now the startup has helped over 4 Mn people to find a better doctor.


Founded in 2006, OutBrain is based in Singapore. It’s a content discovery platform. Recently it has raised USD 35 Mn in a new funding round led by HarbourVest, Carmel Ventures, Index Ventures, Gemini Israel Funds, GlenRock Israel, Rhodium, and Lightspeed Venture Partners and Vintage Partners. Its content recommendation service widget offers to help internet publishers increase web traffic on their websites.

Panorama Education

Based in Boston, MA, Panorama Education is a data analytics company focused on K-12 education. We help school districts, charter networks, and state governments conduct surveys of students, parents, teachers and staff. It has raised USD 4 Mn in a seed round led by Mark Zuckerberg’s Startup:Education and Jeff Clavier’s SoftTech VC, with additional participation from Google Ventures, Ashton Kutcher’s A Grade Investments, Yale University, and others.


Founded in 2011, Cambridge based Nutonian is a machine learning startup that helps to simply explain how things work by unravelling hidden mathematical patterns . It has raised USD 4 Mn in Series A round led by Atlas Venture.


Tel Aviv based, CoolData provides a unified behavioral analytics solution for online companies. It has closed USD 7.5 Mn in Series A funding from Greylock IL and Carmel Ventures. Currently CoolaData service is in beta with several eCommerce, gaming and mobile customers.

Funding Circle

It’s a peer to peer lending network allowing individuals and institutions loan money to small businesses. FundCircle is based out in UK, recently Accel Partners, Ribbit Capital Union Square Ventures and Index Ventures have invested USD 37 Mn in the company in Series C.

Keen IO

It provides tools via an API that developers can use to build their own analytics products. Keen Io has raised USD 2.35 Mn from Rincon Venture Partners and Amplify Partners. It is based in San Francisco and was founded in 2011.


It has raised USD 7.2 Mn from True Ventures, m8 Capital and StubHub co-founder Jeff Fluhr. Launched this year Applauze is an iOS app that presents users with thousands of events happening every day, across 41 U.S. cities and 5 in Canada. Events include concerts, sports games, theater productions and community events.

Mobiles Republic

San Francisco based Mobile Republic is a global syndicator of trusted news apps for mobile devices, its apps include News Republic, Appy Geek, Appy Gamer, GlamLife and Sports Republic, and have more than 15 Mn active users. Recently Intel Capital, with XAnge Private Equity and Creathor Venture, has invested USD 6 Mn in Series B funding in the startup.


It’s an online cinema and curator of the world’s finest films from classic to contemporary masterpieces, and has recently made debut on the iPad. It has raised USD 5.1 Mn in investment for its social networking service for film lovers.


It’s a mobile care coordination solution for healthcare providers. It has secured USD 5.7 Mn in Series A financing led by Cardinal Partners and Milestone Venture Partners with JMI Services, LLC and the Partnership Fund for New York City. By combining HIPAA-secure text messaging with workflow navigation tools to enhance care-teams’ efficacy at carrying out critical, often-repeated clinical workflows Cureatr makes it easier for doctors, nurses and others to provide high quality care to their patients. The solution is available as an Android, iPhone, and Web app.


It’s a video advertising platform, Companies can create premium video inventory through its video ad formats, manage campaigns and monetize all inventory through private Ad Exchanges. It has raised USD 5.2 Mn round of funding from Partech Ventures (Dailymotion) and Elaia Partners (Criteo). Teads is based in London with offices in New York, Sydney, and Paris.

SMS Assist

Chicago based SMS Assist is a cloud based facilities services provider. Pritzker Group Venture Capital has invested USD 45 Mn in the startup. SMS’s proprietary technology provides vendor management, logistics planning, realtime order tracking, predictive modeling and electronic invoicing to deliver on time, best in class service to every location, every time.


With a community of 11 Mn members, Telly is a video startup allowing users to discover and share videos on its website and mobile app.The startup is headquartered in California and has raised USD 3.4 Mn in investment.


It’s a mobile payments startup, its mobile app enables users to process payments using only their phone – without any additional card readers or dongles. Flint is a California based startup and recently Digicel Group has invested USD 6 Mn in a Series B funding in the company.


Launched two years back, Formlabs has just closed a USD 19 Mn funding round led by DFJ Growth, Pitango Venture Capital, Innovation Endeavors and few other angel investors. Formlabs has developed a high quality, low cost 3D printer that enables designers and engineers to create 3D forms with the touch of a button.


California based BloomNation is a marketplace for people to list, discover, and send floral creations by local artisans across the country. It was founded in 2011 and has raised USD 1.65 Mn in seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz, Spark Capital, Chicago Ventures, and CrunchFund.


It’s a Palo Alto based B2B technology company formerly called Parlay Labs. Highfive is trying to change the way communication takes place between the workforce. It has raised USD 13.5 Mn in a funding round.

iMoney Group

It’s a Malaysia based financial services and referral startup launched last year. It owns and operates a network of financial comparison websites, enabling consumers to compare and obtain the best financial products, including mortgages, credit cards, and insurance. It has raised USD 2 Mn Series A round led by Jungle Ventures, ECONA AG, Rebright Partners, IMJ Fenox, Fenox Venture Capital, 500 Startups, Vogel Ventures and angel investor Lim Der Shing.


It provides merchants with a platform where they can compose and distribute their messages and advertising to the relevant local media channels. It was launched in 2010 and is based out in Amsterdam. It has raised USD 475k in a seed round.


Feedvisor is a fully algorithmic repricing platform, offering eCommerce marketplace customers cloud-based solutions to keep their prices competitive and maximize profitability. It has raised USD 1.7 Mn in venture funding led by JAL Ventures, Oryzn Capital and Micro Angel Fund. Feedvisor is based in Israel.
