Snapdeal launches price search by SMS to tap non smartphone users

snapdealOnline marketplace Snapdeal has launched a new feature called “Price Search on SMS” which will allow people to search the price of any product on Snapdeal by just sending an SMS.

Through this feature the consumers can get the price details of a product that they are willing to purchase at a retail store for a quick price comparison.

To use the service, customers just need to send an SMS with the name of the product they want information about to 92789-92789. The company would send them the top results along with the prices and links for easy and instant purchase either via mobile site or mobile applications, if they have a mobile data connection.

Must say, I tried the service myself and the response was quick, within fractions of second, even faster than browsing on the Internet.

The service will be free of cost, with standard SMS charges being applied.

The feature is targeted towards people who don’t own a smartphone nor have a data plan. But what if the user wants to buy the product from Snapdeal? He/she will have to log in to the website via desktop or other means to make the final purchase.

Also, recently Snapdeal had introduced a new facility for its customers called ReGlobe to sell second hand items online, and had launched its iOS app and a Wedding Store.
