ShoppingWish, an online price comparison site has launched a fast and convenient barcode scanning based price comparison app for India, Scandid. It is useful for both online and offline shoppers.
While shopping in the conventional brick and mortar retail stores, it is a common practice in the western countries to check up the price of a product online on their phones, using a simple barcode scanner app. Now, that is possible for the people in India too. Scandid is a mobile app that allows the users to scan the barcode of a product and look up for the best price available online. The user can then shop better and smarter offline as well. One can even enter the name of the product in case of unavailability of a barcode. It searches millions of products across hundreds of online stores in India to find the best deal, it supports scanning of products in categories like books, electronics, appliances, personal care etc.
In India currently there are apps which offer scanning and online price comparison for books, example Flippy, Compare prices and Low price. But with this app launch, ShoppingWish is empowering the Indian consumer to make efficient decisions and bargains in other popular retail sectors as well. Scandid also displays exclusive offers and coupons available on different sites, making it useful while shopping online as well.
‘Your Personal Shopping Assistant, on the go’ That’s what the Scandid team has to say about it. Apps like ShopSavvy, RedLaser and Pic2Shop are incredibly popular in US and Europe, they are also mobile barcode scanners for shopping. Everyone loves saving money while shopping all around the world, hence there is a good possibility that Scandid will be our very own indigenous version of these apps.
The app will also be giving out little surprises from time to time, in the form of deals and coupons from popular food chains like Dominos, Pizza Hut, CCD etc. just for using the app. One can even share good price deals or products through different social networking platforms like Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter and more.
Currently available for Android, Scandid is being developed for iOS as well. It supports all UPC, EAN and ISBN barcode formats.
ShoppingWish was founded by Sushil Choudhari and Madhur Khandelwal, who co-founded Dhingana and TheFind.com respectively. It raised an undisclosed amount of angel funding in May 2013 from prominent angels in Silicon Valley and New York.
