Daily deal site, Groupon has recently acquired Spain based last minute hotel booking app Blink for an undisclosed amount of funds to give a boost to Groupon Getaways travel business.
Blink works with around 2000 hotels, and is spread across 184 cities in eight European countries. The app caters on-the-go travelers looking for unique hotels in travel hotspots across Europe and complements Groupon’s existing European travel offerings.
“The combination of a fantastic mobile app, same-day inventory management for properties and a team that is obsessed with mobile and last-minute travel will help us further expand our travel business as the go-to destination for great deals on great places to stay,” said Aaron Cooper, senior vice president of Groupon Getaways.
Groupon Getaways was launched in 2011, it works with hotels and other partners to provide curated travel deals and experiences in 48 countries.
As per the terms of the deal Blink will be re-branded as “Blink by Groupon”, and will operate separately.
Groupon allows customers to search and discover deals, its services include Groupon Local (What city has to offer), Groupon Getaways, and Groupon Goods to find a curated selection of electronics, fashion, home furnishings).
