Vgulp – helping drinkers to find the best deal on alcoholic beverages

VgulpOnline community today is bombarded with websites offering deal and coupons for every conceivable stuff available. But for a $3 billion Liquor industry of India the reality is quite different. With still having few deal aggregators like Groupon and Snapdeal doing their bit for the boozers – the industry is highly untapped. Realising that, Anand Janardhanan and Ajeesh Udumbath, came up with a niche online portal ‘Vgulp’ to help people make smart drinking choices.

Vgulp is more of an online community of people who are interesting in drinking.

Based out of Bangalore, the website lists wine shops, bar, pubs and basically every possible place to drink in a given location with details such as address with Google map integration, nature of deals and happy hours – and thus offer a perfect platform for drinkers “to be in high spirits”.

“Vgulp’s map based navigation feature has been appreciated for the most, as this allows users to find places just like breeze. All they have to do is drag the map around.” said Anand.

Aiming to make a community of drinking ecosystem, the website is launching a unique feature enhancing the total experience of users. On top of offering deals/coupons, the feature will allow users to choose their favorite brand. So for example if someone is a lover of Jack Daniel, he/she would have no need to compromise with a William Grant’s or a Chivas Regal. The feature will allow users to look for a deal on their favorite brand while checking for a place.

In terms of traction, Vgulp has given access to around 2100 users with more than 6,000 users in the waiting list. The startup has around 25 deals on its platform.

Offering its service in Bangalore region only at the moment, Vgulp in next few months time, aspires to expand in cities including Delhi/NCR, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata. The startup is also planning to tap international markets with Singapore, Spain and London being in the hit-list. The startup is also rolling out its mobile apps in next couple of months.

Bootstrapped by its founders, Vgulp at the moment is focusing to increase its user base before it starts monetizing by few ideas its founders have in mind. Other than advertisements, charging businesses for putting up a deal on its site is another way the startup plans to monetize from.
