Snapdeal enters Gifting category; Myntra pilots delivery within one hour

After taking its hands on to the furniture segment, the leading online etailer has now  launched Gifting category on its site. Snapdeal will now offer a wide array of products such as perfumes, gadgets, bags, jewellery, toys, digital photo frames, etc., in a range starting from INR 179 onwards.

With the available customized filters, a user can easily search gifts on the basis of specific occasions. Apart from this, the site also caters to different gifting solutions such as corporate, party, events, etc. along with gift vouchers and gifting solutions for men, women, children and family. In addition, a ‘Souvenirs & Antiques’ category has been added for the elite section. A ‘Rakhi Special’ subcategory is also available at present on account of the upcoming festival.

Currently, Snapdeal offers its customers various options from prominent brands like Cadbury, Calvin Klein, Choco Swiss, Delmonte, Ferns n Petals, Archies, Celestial, Satya Paul etc.

The other players in this section include Jabong, Flipkart and Myntra. However, if talked about pure gifting segment, the portals such as Giftxoxo and  Giveter are also popular.

Myntra taking steps to redefine the product delivery concept, will now deliver within one hour to limited Myntralocations

Mostly, when shopping online, there lies a time gap of minimum 48 hours in product delivery, which sometimes creates a small limp in the shopping experience of the consumer. In order to overcome this gap between online and offline shopping, Myntra, a leading fashion and lifestyle portal in India, have recently announced that it will now provides product delivery to its customers in Delhi and Bangalore, within one hour of ordering online. However, currently, the service is available only for the areas which fall within 5 km radius of the company’s warehouse in both cities. For other larger areas, the portal claims to complete deliveries within two hours.

To ensure such fast deliveries, the Myntra team tries to reduce the waiting period between the order placed and the delivery leaving from warehouse to 23 minutes maximum from earlier 3-4 hours. To manage this ultra short product shipment, Myntra has bought and deployed around 30-40 handheld terminals at the warehouse.

To make this pilot project reach to the ears of masses, Myntra has also launched a video (below) which encapsulate the entire process of online shopping and ends with customer reactions on receiving their product within an hour of order placement.

    Daily Deals or Group Deals or whatever you choose to call it, is a fundamentally flawed model. You can’t make money and scale the business up fundamentally however much time, energy, resources and more importantly, VC/Angel cash you burn in a decade. Thus, yes, repositioning into a “Marketplace” is the best bet. Most dailydeals companies would sooner or later become a next Flipkart, Myntra cause you need “categories” to scale.
