Samsung has confirmed that it will reveal its much anticipated Galaxy Gear smartwatch in Berlin, on Sept. 4, two days ahead of the official opening of this year’s IFA consumer electronics fair. Moreover, the company will also be presenting its upcoming Note III from Galaxy series.
Poised to be the next big thing in the wearable devices, the Galaxy Gear is made to enhance and enrich the smartphone experience in the form of a watch.
Powered by Google’s Android operating system, it works as a ‘companion to phone or tablet’ – by allowing users to phone calls, surf the Web and handle e-mails – on top of its obvious purpose of giving time/date info. Moreover the device reportedly works as a Pebble smartwatch, putting notifications, tweets, and texts on one’s wrist.
The device will also have a microphone, speaker and a tiny camera as reported by Gigaom – to shape it more like a gadget people would be dreaming off since they first saw the movie ‘Spy Kids’. Said to be having a 2.5 inch display screen diagonally – the watch is powered by dual core 1.5GHz with Mali-400 MP4 GPU and a 320 x 320 resolution display.
With Samsung’s Galaxy series already giving a tough competition to Apple’s iPhone. An early launch of Samsung’s smartwatch than that of Apple’s could leave Apple by having lost a significant market of ‘tech crazies’ before even its own product launch – as they might go for The Gear. However, for a positive note this also leaves Apple to closely study The Gear’s features – note the responses – and then accordingly make its product more superior, advanced.
