Buying plants, Bonsai & pots has always been a tough task for people interested in gardening, either they have to search for a nursery nearby their homes or have to wait for the street vendors selling the same. And it often happens that they are not able to find the plant of their choice and further adding to the distress, transporting those plants back home is also a daunting task.
While India has witnessed a number of niche product categories that have expanded their offering online such as drinks, tools, adult products etc., yet there is another startup focussing in such niche category which is now tasting online retail market in India.
RollingNature, a Pune based startup which has just started operating this month is a “one-stop shop” for all garden lovers, offering variety of products including plants, pots, etc.
The website has 5 major categories which includes Plants (Flowering, Bonsai, Road-side, Climbers, Decoratives, etc), Pots (Plastic, Earthen, Cement, Ceramic, etc) and others.
As all plants have different share of soil, water, sunlight requirement thus all needs are to be handled differently. So, along with the product details, the website also guides its customers on how to take care of a particular plant via maintenance tips section on the product detail page, and through its blog.
Website also offers a refined search option by allowing to search plants by size, Plant lifecycle, Price, Soil type, Plant placement type (Indoor or Outdoor), Soil & Water requirement, etc.
There are about 300 products that are listed on the website right now and they are already keeping few products in their inventory and also have drop shipment service. The website has managed to get around 5-10 orders a day.
The company is also planning to roll out a new feature called, “Post your photo” where users would be able to post images of their terrace and the website will help them to choose what kind of plants they should take, type of pots, etc.
Currently, the web-store is only shipping in Pune, but come September end, it plans to expand its operation in all major cities like Bombay, Delhi, Hyderabad and Surat.
The website is providing free shipping on orders above INR 1000, but also adds up INR 15 on each product. Speaking over extra charges Arpit, Co-founder, RollingNature, said, “there is a lot of effort being involved in packing such products, we have to ensure that there is no damage in the product while shipping and as we also provide pots and mud, so additional INR 15 is nominal… its more like an experiment, if we don’t get good response on this, then we are willing to reduce and if required, removing it completely.”
RollingNature is a self funded startup and is working with a team of three.
