With number of people buying stuff online, a need for offline players to expand their offering into online space is something which is not new in India. Recently, similar need has brought in leading global tech-manufacturing company Moserbaer to launch a dedicated web-store, boxofficeboss.in for CDs and DVDs.
Speaking over the reason to go for online space, Deepak Kukreja, Business Head, Moserbaer Entertainment, said, “Over last couple of years we have noticed that many of the customers were buying these online and in that context we decided to significantly increase our focus towards online space for offering these, and for this we launched Boxofficeboss.in, which will serve as the platform for further such initiative.”
Boxofficeboss.in, launched in May this year is not only offering titles from Moserbaer but also having third party content across different language. The website has divided the titles under certain categories which include Adventure, classic, comedy, drama, action, etc and for now it has product offering of about 5000 titles for the customers.
It allows shoppers to shop Via banner (Moserbaer, Sony, Shemaroo), Genre, language, price, format, etc.
Though there are a number of players offering CDs & DVDs online in India, over the market scenario, Deepak said, “The market is very much fragmented, there are few large players focussing on this category but they also sell other stuff along with cds & dvds, so their focus is diffused as they are selling hundreds of items, whereas, we are just selling entertainment, and solely focusing on it.”
As for now Moserbaer has done a soft launch of its website to understand the market and customer response, so it hasn’t picked up for any marketing activity. Despite that, it is not only getting a good response from its established customer base but also getting new customers who are coming and shopping on the website. Though denied sharing numbers, company states that they are witnessing increase in number of orders and ticket size and are also getting business queries from producers who want them to market their movies through CDs & DVDs.
Boxofficeboss only provides the option to pay online for its customers and also charges an additional INR 50 on order below INR 500.
In future, the website might also take up some approaches like increasing social media presence so as to make customer experience more engaging.
For sourcing products it has tied up with a number of production houses and distributors, following a “Just in time” model where they source products only when they get the order and therefore don’t have to keep any sort of inventory.
