Foodpanda’s Brazilian arm Hellofood doubles its base by acquiring close-competitor Janamesa

Hellofood-jainamesaRocket Internet’s online food delivery chain Foodpanda which operates in Brazil through its affiliate brand Hellofood, has announced the acquisition of its competitor Janamesa. The financial terms of the deal has been left undisclosed for now.

Hellofood has launched its operations in Brazil six months back and as a part of the deal, all restaurants of Janamesa’s, its current users and operations will be integrated into HelloFood Brazil.

The announcement comes just in few months after Foodpanda group had acquired food delivery sites Singapore-Dine in Asia and Etelvitel KFT in Hungary.

Janamesa, is a part of German startup Lieferando, which is one of the market leader in Europe with more than 6,500 registered restaurants. It had launched its operations in Brazil in April 2012 and is active in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Currently, it has over 600 partner restaurants across the country.

Emerson Calegaretti, founder and Co-CEO,  HelloFood Brazil, said that this acquisition will help them in doubling its user base and strengthening its position in the Brazilian market. “The benefits are obvious: More users and a greater range of restaurants will drive both orders and revenue,” he added.

Hellofood with its affiliate brand Foodpanda is one of the leading online food ordering platform operating in 27 countries and reaching around 3 billion people worldwide. Recently Foodpanda had raised USD 20 million in funding and had also launched mobile app for iOS and Android.
