Mumbai based The Label Corp, which is working on a model to bring in private labels across different product categories, with the celebrity endorsements has raised series A round from Kalaari Capital (previously known as Indo-US Venture Partners). As per the speculations the round is expected to be between USD 1-2 million and will be invested in two parts.
The development was first reported by Techcircle, we had tried reaching Preeta Sukhtankar, founder of The Label Corp, an email response stated, “As soon as we make an official announcement I will let you know.”
Though Kalaari Capital’s website also shows The Label Corp as one of its portfolio company.
The Home Label was launched in November 2012, directed by Sussanne Roshan. It is an interiors and home decor venture offering products across 8 categories including kitchen, dining and bar. It competes with other ecommerce players like Pepperfry, Jabong, FabFurnish and more.
The Closet Label was launched in May this year, its a private label ecommerce venture for fashion products offering outfits, accessories and wardrobe essentials. It has Malaika Arora Khan as the Creative Director and Tastemaker and as stated earlier, all the outfits offered by the website are personally designed by Malaika.
Also, celebrities engaged with company are not only endorsing the brand but are also stakeholders in the company.
The company even plans to bring many more such private label with celebrity creative designers. Two more such brands will be launched this year and five by the end of next year.
Founder, Preeta Sukhtankar is a marketing professional and has worked with brands like Elle, MTV, Percept, etc prior launching The Label Corp. The Label Corp had previously raised angel funding from undisclosed investors.
Bangalore based Kalaari Capital is a USD 160 million venture capital fund, its other e commerce portfolio companies include Zivame, Hushbabies, Urbanladder.
