Having rolled out its 4G services in the states of Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune and Chandigarh, Bharti Airtel is going to expand its 4G services in Delhi as well by September, states ET.
According to the reports, the company has also roped in Chinese equipment maker Huawei to plan, design, supply and deploy 4G network in Delhi which is one of the most lucrative data markets in the country.
Bharti Airtel, recently has also reduced its 4G data tariffs by up-to 31% to boost up data usage and increase adoption for its 4G service for improving company’s revenues. As per the new plans, users will be able to get 4G speed at 3G rates.
Recently, Bharti Airtel has also announced new plans for its 4G subscribers which include free access to about 1,000 movies and 100 games which are being offered in partnership with BigFlix and Indiagames
After Delhi, Airtel will also launch its 4G services in Mumbai and for this it is in talks with players like Huawei and ZTE for network.
In 2012, Bharti Airtel had acquired 49% stake in Qualcomm Inc’s Indian 4G venture Wireless Business Services (WBS) which gave it licenses in Delhi, Mumbai, Haryana and Kerala. Right now, it holds 51% stake in WBS and plans to completely acquire it by end of 2014.
Prior to this, in 2010, It had also won spectrum for BWA in four telecom services areas of Kolkata, Maharashtra, Punjab and Karnataka for INR 3,314.36 crore.
4G is the fourth generation of mobile phone mobile communications standards. It provides download speeds of around 100 Megabits per second (Mbps) on the move, which can go up to 1 Gigabits per second (Gbps) at a fixed location. A 4G system provides mobile ultra-broadband Internet access (For example- to laptops with USB wireless modems, to smartphones, and to other mobile devices).
According to its recent Quarterly reports, in India, Bharti Airtel has close to 191 million customers (as on June 30, 2013), making it one of the largest wireless operator in the country both in terms of customers and revenues. It has 8.7 million active 3G customers of which 6.8 million are active 3G data customers (as on quarter ended June 30, 2013).
Though Bharti Airtel is a bit late in launching its 4G services in Delhi, but still this would be a great news for the individuals who face high problems due to slow internet connectivity as according to recent reports India ranks 114 when it comes to Internet speed.
