The growth of ecommerce and smartphones had significantly led to increase in the practice of showrooming where the shopper checks the product at the offline store and then purchase it online as products are available at a lower prices online.
According to Deloitte Digital, smartphones had influenced $159 billion in U.S. store sales in 2012 and will be influencing $689 billion of store sales in 2016. Whereas in case of holiday season, smartphones influenced between $700 million and $1.7 billion in U.S. in 2012 and is expected that 59 million U.S. shoppers will use their smartphones to showroom in 2013. Thus pointing that in the coming time showrooming & smartphones are going to impact overall sales of the offline retailers.
