Navigation & location based service provider, Mapmyindia, has launched a new people tracking mobile app ‘Locate’. The app will help users to track locations of their friends and family by allowing them to add up-to three people to their locate list.
‘Locate’ app will work by using GPS, Wi-Fi or cell tower triangulation to pinpoint the location. In case a data connection is unavailable, the app caches the location periodically and updates when the connection is available.
It tracks the live movement of the people on an interactive map as they check-in and locations are automatically updated in every 500 meters to give an updated location even if users don’t manually check-in.
The app will also provide historical movement reports for up to five days including detailed movement of the people i.e. exact date, time and address, that will be available for access through web and within the app. Along with people that are added in the users list, the app shows the location of a user’s own movement as these are automatically updated.
Commenting on the launch, Rakesh Verma, Managing Director MapmyIndia, said, “Locate is an initiative that addresses the safety and security need of individuals and institutions. I feel that they would be immensely comforted knowing that their friends, family and staff are safe.”
All reports can be accessed by the users through web dashboard i.e. http://locate.mapmyindia.com.
It is available for free at Google PlayStore for download purpose. One can download the app and then set/configure within the app, the time and days of the week when their friends/family can locate them. After configuration, users can start reporting their visits and user’s family/friends can also login to their own app, or through the mobile site to gain access to the report.
For now the app can only be used on Android phones.
