After the introduction of multiple categories in its Indian online marketplace, Amazon.in is now building on its specialty of powerful affiliate marketing dashboard i.e. Amazon Associates for India affiliates to drive conversions on Amazon.in.
Affiliate marketing has been a main channel in established ecommerce economies, driving sales while tracing ROI and margins for the merchants. The concept is yet to take off in India and is currently driven by third party affiliates such as Tyroo and other affiliate ad networks.
Amazon associates will provide a powerful dashboard for small and big publishers to list products and ads from Amazon.in to their media site and earn through CPA models.
Publishers can select from a wide variety of options, such as listing a product of their own choice which they believe will sell on their platform, selecting already available display ads etc.
Currently Amazon is offering 5% commission on electronics and 10% cut on other categories per successful sale. The program is obviously free to join for publishers.
Publishers such as Quikr.com are also looking at Amazon affliate program to earn commision on their pageviews.
Amazon is not the first to bet on affiliate marketing in India, as it under trial by some other players too like Flipkart (5%-10% Commision) and Jabong (10%-12% Commision). Flipkart has also developed a similar dashboard called Flipkart Affiliate whereas Jabong is running affiliate campaigns through third party service provider Commision Junction.
Players such as Myntra, Snapdeal, Shopclues are yet to go for a direct affiliate programs.
Now the launch of Amazon Associates might activate other players to understand the real importance of affiliate marketing in India, whereas encourage small publishers to survive and grow with higher earning unlike the low rates offered by third party ad networks. It will also help in encouraging individuals to become publishers over time.
