Opentable acquires mobile tech company JustChalo for $11mn

OpenTable, an online restaurant reservations provider has acquired JustChalo Inc., a mobile technology company focused on the US restaurant industry in a stock and cash deal of approximately $11 million as per a release.

“Mobile is increasingly important to our business and the JustChalo team’s expertise will help accelerate our development efforts in this area,” said Joseph Essas, Chief Technology Officer of OpenTable. “We’re looking forward to integrating JustChalo’s engineers into our team and continuing to enhance the mobile experience for diners and our restaurant customers.” he said.

As per the Open Table in first quarter of 2013, mobile bookings accounted for 36% of 34 million diners in North America. Since the introduction of its mobile solutions in November 2008, OpenTable has seated more than 60 million diners through reservations booked via mobile devices. With its headquarters in San Francisco, Open Table provides services in the US, Canada, Germany, Japan, Mexico and the UK. It also owns and operates Toptable, the leading consumer destination site for restaurant reservations in the UK.

JustChalo was founded by Kashyap Deorah and Rishi Deshpande with its offices in Saratoga, California  and Mumbai. Kashyap was earlier the President of Futurebazaar.com, and founder of a marketplace Chaupaati Bazaar, which merged with Futurebazaar.com in 2010.

JustChalo’s early investors include Ash Bhardwaj, founding CEO of Aricent & Rakesh Mathur, founding CEO of Webaroo.
