Indian Artisans Online, a directory of artisans and their products

India is a land known for its cultural diversity, vibrant art forms and the exquisite artifacts handcrafted by over 12 million skilled artisans., a Delhi based startup in an effort to support artisans to connect directly with buyers across India and the world has come up with a one stop shop solution.

Working to bridge the gap between India’s skilled artisans and discerning buyers, IndianArtisansOnline establishes a direct link with artisans, bring them recognition and respect and establish fair, transparent trade practices.

“The web is a powerful medium to aggregate stories of artisans and their skills and for them to get discovered by end buyers and consumers who are passionate about fine workmanship and handcrafts. This prompted us to set up Indian Artisans Online (IAO),” says the team.

IAO team had worked for last 5 years with weavers and artisans across India, in a step to support the ecosystem for artisans the site also has a  online directory with artisan’s contact details, a storehouse of craft processes and a service for consumers to commission customized work to artisans listed.

The website, which went live just a few weeks ago, has already shown interest among shoppers across the country and even from few institutional buyers overseas.

The site is offering Jewellery, bags, stationery, home decor products, etc. For now, it has 35 product collections and over 250 artisans listed.

Creating & managing a startup in India has its own challenges and the biggest issue for source products but in case of IAO it would be a bigger challenge as maximum artisans are placed in remote areas, IAO team had travelled across country to get the artisans who make exceptional products.

The store has a comprehensive administrative backend system to manage the product and artisan listings dynamically, they have tried to build a scalable, secure, search-engine friendly website.

At the time where maximum e-tail websites offer free shipping to the customers, Indianartisansonline, is betting on paid shipping, as the site quotes “Delivery charges are based on the weight of the shipment and the order destination.” Not only this, the site is only offering online modes of payment and product replacement within 15 days.

It competes with other ecommerce startups in this segment like,,, Unravel India and more.

The team has been supported by Axis Bank Foundation.
