Viacom18, a joint venture of Viacom Inc and the Network18 Group, has announced launch of three mobile products under its own brand i.e. IVR – based voice chat – MTV Gupshup, a mobile content app – Vh1 Hub and a game for teenage girls – Stardom Saga.
MTV Gupshup: To tap the increasing popularity of chat on mobile value added services (MVAS) & absence of a branded player, made Viacom18 to come up with MTV Gupshup. To provide this service, it had tied up with chat service platform Altruist. The service is available in 13 Indian languages and users can also change their preferred language. It will enable search through options like friendship, flirting and serious relationship.
Vh1 Hub: Powered by Techzone, Vh1 Hub is a mobile content shop for international music. It allows download of mobile content like songs, ringtones, caller back tunes, videos and wallpapers. The app is available only for Android, BlackBerry and Symbian platforms.
For MTV Gupshup & Vh1 Hub, customers will be charged by the operators.
Stardom Saga: A Gaming mobile app aimed at teenage girls available on iPhones, iPads and Android phones.
Rajneel Kumar, VP and business head, digital media, Viacom18, believes that the branded products in the MVAS eco-system will help to cash on added advertising revenues and also tap into the content needs of the youth.
For now Viacom is promoting all these products through TVCs on its network channels, and advertisements on social networks and its existing mobile network.
Viacom 18 Media Pvt. Ltd. is a 50/50 joint venture operation in India between Viacom Inc and the Network18 Group. It operates six general entertainment channels – MTV, Nickelodeon, Vh1, COLORS, SONIC, Comedy Central and film business through Viacom18 Motion Pictures, that produces, acquires and distributes Hindi films, This apart, Viacom18 also runs Viacom’s consumer products division in India.
