Shoppingwish raises angel round from US based angels

Consumer electronics price comparison website, Shoppingwish.in has raised angel round from Sandeep Johri and 4 other angels from Silicon Valley and New York, as reported by vccircle. The amount and identity of other angels remains undisclosed by the company.

Shoppingwish.in compares prices for products like cameras, mobiles, computers, personal care products, books etc. and offers deals to lure customers. The funds which were raised earlier in May will be used in product development and marketing by the startup. Currently the portal looks weak in its mobile strategy with carelessly developed responsive design which is not yet optimized for multiple screens. On desktop, it offers clean web interface for its growing community which includes 26k+ likes on Facebook.

It is working with sellers such as Next, Homeshop18, Naaptol, Shopclues and several others. As the idea and need for price comparison tends to be more appealing and friendly for on-the-go smartphone users, the company will gear up to launch its mobile app in next quarter. It also plans to enter the fashion and lifestyle category, furniture, baby products, etc., but for the fashion category it can be a bit tricky as the fashion merchandize varies a lot across sellers for a price analysis feature.

As per the founders, the site has witnessed increased traction since December with user engagement including time spent, page views, etc grown by 50% in last one month. It claims to have listed 3.5 million products as of now on their portal.

Shoppingwish also works on an affiliate model, the concept which is on the rise among entrepreneurs as the space of direct online selling looks crowded and competitive.

The other startups venturing in this space includes, Pricedekho.com, Pricebaba.com (backed by 500startups), Nupinch.com (backed by 91springboard), Pricesbolo (mobile comparison engine). Recently Google has also started testing its product search and affiliate model for e-commerce players in India to cash on the growing market opportunity of product search and price mapping.

ShoppingWish was founded by Sushil Choudhari & Madhur Khandelwal; Sushil has formarly worked in Dhingana and Madhur had formerly worked with Microsoft and was also part of the founding team at a US-based shopping search engine, TheFind.com.
