Security solutions provider AVAST acquires Secure.me, a facebook security app

AVAST Softwares, the maker of popular antivirus has acquired a two year old social networking security startup Secure.me revealed co-founder Mario Grobholz in a blog post today.

Secure.me which was backed by several investors, including T-Venture was launched in Nov 2011 and has became the number one security app on Facebook . It has more than 90 Million Facebook profiles scanned to protect the privacy, security and reputation of users worldwide.Company was looking for strategic investors to expand on next level when the acquisition came in.

Speaking on the future vision of the company Mario Grobholz further stated that the  mission will remain same as they will continue to provide a safe and carefree online experience now at much wider scale and with more power at a higher speed.

Secure.me which has offices in San Francisco and Munich, Germany is a security company dedicated to making the use of social networks and apps a safe experience for all. In 2012 company  introduced App Advisor, the world’s first solution to protect users from data-hungry apps which embodied  knowledge about more than 500,000 social apps.

Avast  which acquired Secure.me in an undisclosed amount has the largest vendor market share by 17.5% being ahead of Microsoft, Symantec, Avira and AVG as per an earlier research.

According to the Vincent stickler, CEO, AVAST , the acquisition will help AVAST’ to position as a worldwide leader in security. Also AVAST will try to capitalise from Secure.me’s Facebook security application, which uses sophisticated algorithms to identify actions that could impact users’ privacy, security and reputation.
