eBay India has announced today a transition in leadership. As per the announcement, Latif Nathani will now lead the company by taking over the position of former eBay country manager Muralikrishnan B.
“After eight years at eBay India leading Product, Category & Marketing as well as the last two years as Country Manager, I am stepping down to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities and a new career adventure.” announced Murali.
Latif Nathani, the new ebay Managing Director will serve the company from July 1, 2013. Murali will be transitioning his responsibilities by the end of the quarter to explore the entrepreneurial opportunities outside of eBay.
Joined in 2006, Murali served the company by variety of leadership roles, most recently as Sr. Director – Marketing & Product Management.
Expressing views in this occasion, Latif said “I am excited about leading the thriving eBay India business which is an industry market leader in India … The marketplaces business model fascinates me and I look forward to steering the talented Indian team to even greater heights”
With over 22 years of extensive experience in building and leading high performance global business, engineering and marketing teams, Nathani has worked with companies such as Microsoft and Symantec. He also led a consumer incubator for Microsoft India, headed Global Product Marketing for Symantec’s Norton business and was cofounder of eMemories.com
eBay was looking for a new country manager since April this year and has given Spencer Stuart, the mandate to search for it, but eBay declined to comment on it at that time.
As per Alexa Ebay.in has witnessed increase in traffic compared to last year, but there is a continuous downturn in its traffic since past few months. Also ebay India has been facing tough competition from new players which have entered the ecommerce scene in India such as Flipkart, Myntra, Jabong, Shopclues and more.
eBay India came up with various marketing campaigns in past few months, which include its campaign specifically designed for the IPL, launched in April. Its integrated marketing campaign under the theme – ‘Want it. Get it’, was launched in February. The campaign was designed to encourage consumers to check deals on eBay India before they shop elsewhere. The parent company Ebay Inc also participated in a $50 mn investment in Snapdeal recently under a strategy to strengthen its position in the emerging market.
eBay India is an online marketplace which provides a range of products across Electronics, Lifestyle, Collectibles and Media categories with approximately 30,000 sellers operate on eBay India each year.
