Amazon appstore now available in India

Amazon has no plans to make any delays for its last month’s commitment where the company claimed to expand its app store to 200 countries. Available in ‘nearly 200’ countries, its appstore has now come to India.

Amazon, has updated its app store to version 5.0 today and achieved a coverage in 195 countries including India, Mexico and South Africa.

This has made Amazon appstore the biggest appstore in the world in terms of its reach, leaving behind Windows Phone app store, Google Play and iTunes. Google Play, the most popular appstore for android mobile devices is available in only 134 countries, whereas Apple iTunes is available in 155 countries. By this, one thing is obvious, that Amazon is planning something big. Well, at least in terms of reaching a wide audience.

The new version also brings bug fixes and enhances the performance. Only comes pre-installed in Kindle fire devices, the appstore needs to be installed manually on all other Android devices. For more information how to manual download it, click here.

Launched in March 2011, Amazon initially started by offering its appstore in US market, followed by its expansion to six more countries including UK. The appstore currently houses more than 85 thousand free and paid Android applications. It also offers a paid app for free daily, as a part of its promotional stunt ‘Today’s free app of the day’.
