Officials arrest Timtara.com’s promoter on the charges of serial online fraud

In the midst of all online retail buzz in the country, timtara.com , and online retail website riding the growth has finally been busted by the Economics Offenses Wing on the case of serial online fraud. Official have arrested Arindam Bose,  Director and Harish Ahluwalia, COO with three cases registered against  Bose with the EOW and Janakpuri police stations under IPC sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating).

Timtara has been charged for doing an online fraud of not fulfilling the prepaid orders placed on their website on the basis of 200 complaints filed against them from all across the country. The site only accept pre-paid orders by card. “The victims claimed that they had paid money online through credit card for various items. However, despite of repeated requests and follow-up, the requisite goods never arrived,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Economic Offences Wing) S.D. Mishra. “The company in fact shut down their front office from Sector-8 in Noida and changed their location to avoid detection and confrontation with the cheated customers. We are also inquiring how the company registered a Rs 14 crore turnover last year,” he said.

The company was providing products on below market price to lure the customer placing the order for the first time on the website. On going through the complaints and reviews site for timtara, the peculiar case of non-delivery or non-refund of the order was most common on MouthShut, and others.

Non-refund in case of any glitches is common with some more online retail website that often claim operational and supplier inefficiencies for it. But authorities finally taking some action to safeguard the rights of consumer is some relief. When the companies are spending heavily to acquire customers just to make them try their service once, companies such as timtara can be scaring away the shopper who already used lot of guts to do transaction online. The same consumer who could have been a potential online buyer will surely find it difficult to place an order on any other website creating a loss for the overall community.

    I read the news about ‘Timtara founder’s arrest raises concerns over protection to online shoppers’in your online newspaper. Its a appriciating step. Timtara also cheated me,I ordered (order no. 10381594) for a camera on 5th jan of this year but they neither sent me the camera nor refunding my amount of Rs 6240/- since last 4 months.I have mailed several times and called to custmer care several times but they made no reply to me.       That’s bllushit. Didn’t you notice the language of the notice on the website. It’s stalling and duping. Go to Delhi and find the guy in the police station. Thrash him so much that he will need all that money to live again and buy a nice auto wheelchair.

    I too had ordered a Sony hi fi system and paid by debit card.on 2nd March 2013 but have not recrived it yet. They do not respond to the complaints by email and do not pick up the phone. I can’t even track my order.
    These thugs should be stripped of all their money and the customers who have been duped should immediately be refunded their due amount to the full extent. All their assets should be confiscated and they should be made beggars. Only then others will think twice before doing the same thing.
    But as this is India I dare not hope to receive my money back im my lifetime!

    I have also ordered a phone from this website on4th Feb,and even after many many followups they are not bother to respond to the customers.
    they have only prepaid option for payments which they use as a tool to get the money from customers.
    Their So said Customer-Support is also worst they do not respond you correct status and moreover if you call them frequently they will not even pick up your phone calls.

    This site should be shut-down and the payment gateways who are linked with it should also withdraw their services.

    This is horrible and so pathetic of any group that would take advantage of the consumer or anyone else for that matter, True customer service is serving the customer at their interest. At Rowdy Fox in few rare cases where a refund has been required, the funds had been processed before the customer was notified. I prefer informing the customer that we were unable to fulfill their order than having the customer request there money back. I believe that is bad business. We desire to build relationships with our customers so we do everything in our power to earn their trust and we don’t do it by making “sounds to good to be true” promises.
