Wopshop.com looking for a buyer

Though ecommerce market in India is at boom, but maintaining sustainability in the market is the biggest challenge for ecommerce players and startups. Yet another ecommerce company wopshop.com launched in February 2012 is now looking for buyers and has shut operations for the time being.

Wopshop was launched in February 2012, as an online gateway of ‘toys for children’ by Rohit Sharma former CEO of Reliance Digital along with his two former colleagues Vaibhav Odhekar and Sanjeev Singhal.

We tried placing order at Wopshop, but the system was not able to process it. On contacting customer care, the response was, “Operations are stopped for few days, we have no idea when will it restart, you can purchase the product from any other website.”

A reply from Rohit Sharma stated, “It has not shut down. We are in an advanced process to sell it off. It will be good if we talk in 4 weeks to give you a better update.”

As per our estimates Wopshop was looking for investments and as it failed in getting investment so it took this step to sell it off. Sanjeev Singhal, Co-founder & CTO of Wopshop has joined Iprof as CTO which is a Education Startup. Before Wopshop, Sanjeev was CTO at Reliance BIG Entertainment; he has worked with India Today Group Digital as Head Technology and was also the General Manager Technology (eCommerce) for Times Internet Limited. Rohit himself has joined GSF last year in November. Prior to Wopshop, Rohit was the CEO, Digital Business, Reliance ADA Group and had set-up zapak.com. He was also a founding member of Indiatimes.com.
