Yammy Apparels India (P) Ltd, a Tamil Nadu based company has launched www.inkyponky.com, an e-tailer of branded kids apparel. InkyPonky aims to become a one-stop site for leading kids wear brand in India and since its launch in mid-April, has experienced over 2000 visitors and done brisk business.
The company is also among the first to have a video-catalogue for all its products which provides a better feel to the customer about the product quality and look. The founders opted for using a SaaS platform due to quicker implementation, as well as minimal upfront investment and ease in managing the backend work.
The company was founded in January 2011 by Satish Sangu who holds an MBA from IIM-Bangalore and has previously worked as an Analyst at JP Morgan and Merill Lynch, besides Reliance Power.
Speaking with Iamwire, Satish, MD of InkyPonky.Com, said, “We are very bullish on the kids wear segment. The kids market is expected to grow from Rs.38,000 crores to over Rs.80000crs by 2015, as per a report by Assocham. The share of branded kids wear is should rise from ~13% to 18% by 2015, which translates to ~Rs14000crores market. We believe the market is going to be more and more favourable for us when India reaches that position.”
The company operates its own warehouse in Theni, Tamil Nadu and has tied-up with Blue Dart and First Flight as its logistics partners. The company offers all major payment methods such as Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking and Cash on Delivery and offers free shipping for orders above Rs.500 while charging a minimal amount for orders below Rs.500. The company follows a 30-day return policy and takes 7-days to process the return once the shipment reaches them. For marketing, the company does a mix of activities, such as Google adwords, social media sites such as Facebook, as well as offers in Coupon sites and affiliate marketing, for which they have tied up with OMG.
The company maintains over 210 SKU’s across leading brands such as Gini & Jony, Benetton, Mothercare and ELC and is sourcing products directly from the manufacturer and in some cases from the authorized distributors and operates out of 3,000 sq.ft of office-cum-warehouse space in Theni.
InkyPonky started off with a Rs.25 Lakhs investment from the founders and is currently 100% owned by Yammy Apparels India (P) Ltd. The founders plan to look for funding once they reach over 100 transactions a day at an average ticket size of Rs.800/transaction.
