To get further information on the investment, iamwire contacted Indian Angel Network, which confirmed the investment but denied to reveal the amount. StayZilla.com was founded by Yogendra Vasupal, who had earlier launched Inasra in 2005 and later, rebranded the service to StayZilla in 2010. Stayzilla’s management team includes Rupal Surana and Sachit Singhi.
The online hotel booking service offers consumers a wide choice of hotels which one can filter based on several criteria such as amenities/leisure, options/cuisine. An interesting aspect of StayZilla is that they offer bundled services such as pickup from railway station and airport. Stayzilla offers a network of over 3800 hotels in 448 cities with rooms ranging from Rs.250 to Rs.60,000.
Earlier, in August 2011, Yatra acquired MagicRooms, a global distribution system (GDS) for hotels, floated by ex-Via co-founder, Niranjan Gupta. The platform allows users to integrate their hotels’ property management systems (PMS) with travel agents, travel portals and websites, and corporate houses, for the distribution of room inventory and rates.
The Indian Angel Network (IAN) has over 180 members and has completed over 25 investments across multiple sectors such as IT, mobile and education. In 2011 alone, IAN invested nearly $10 million in 10 start-ups, such as Jigsee, GrOffr and Vayavya.
