Exclusive: Walmart appoints Gunaranjan Pemmaraju to head Walmart Labs in India

Ecommerce in India is expanding and becoming more and more interesting as the international players making head ways towards its growing market. In one of the recent announcement Walmart Labs in India has appointed Gunaranjan Pemmaraju  of Amazon.com to head its upcoming technology center in the country.

“Today, I’m delighted and excited to welcome the newest member of the Labs India team, who will also be its leader Gunaranjan Pemmaraju”,  states the Walmart’s blogpost  written by Anand Rajaraman, senior vice president of Walmart ‘s Global eCommerce business.

After serving Amazon. com, as Director ,Engineering at Amazon.com, Gunaranjan Pemmaraju was vice president of product development at i2 Technologies, where he held various product, technology and leadership roles in an 11-year career spanning across Dallas and Bangalore.  Guna holds a bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and a master’s degree in business from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.

Walmart, the world’s largest retailer is setting up a 100 member technology team in India. The $ 422 bn company, which is primarily into traditional retail business, is trying to catch up with Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer by aggressively pushing e-commerce.

Walmart Labs estabalished in November 2011and it is focused on intersection of social, mobile and retail. The company rolled down Walmart labs after it took over Rajaraman’s own venture Kosmix.

“As I welcome Guna to our group, I am confident that he will hire, develop and deliver innovative technologies that will accelerate the new generation of e-commerce for millions of Walmart customers around the world,” added Rajaraman.
