LinkedIn Corp unveiled a research and development center in Karnataka; this is the first such office of social-networking site’s outside North American continent.
The new center in Bangalore will support and operate the website’s basic technology infrastructure that is used to build the core products and features of LinkedIn, the company said in a statement. However, LinkedIn executives declined to say how much the company is investing in the new center.
California based LinkedIn was very well appreciated by investors with its initial public offering almost six months back, that was the biggest for an Internet venture since Google Inc.’s 2004 public debut.
In India at present, the company has 12 million subscribers, out of that only 55 percent are active users. After US India forms LinkedIn’s second-largest market subscriber base .
The company already has more than 70 employees in India across its sales offices and the new technology center. It is planning to hire an additional 25-30 network engineers, software developers and database administrators in India.
