While Indian online businesses are going great guns along with entire ecosystem, which seems to be euphoric about the growth of online industry in India, after investors and consumers now it is turn of government to join the bandwagon of eRevolution. Emphasizing on the urge of creating conducive infrastructure to thrive this industry, the two days annual event organized by Government of Punjab in association with Chandigarh governance will be kicked off from September 23. eRevolution would be inaugurated by the Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT, Chandigarh, Shri Shivraj V. Patil. The event is likely to boast the small and medium business endeavors on the agenda with a view to overlay the way for their expansion.
With the joint effort of Chandigarh and Punjab, the ecosystem in the region is being promoted for entrepreneurship especially for SMBs as it is becoming the backbone of Indian IT industry. This eRevolution will not only help them in building strategic linkages with some of the big players but at the same time, will reach out to bigger domestic and overseas markets too.
The region has already been accredited as the fastest growing knowledge focus of the country, informed V.K. Singh, Secretary, Information Technology, Chandigarh. Addressing the media, Singh said “already some of the companies based in this region are contributing to the world economies through their innovative products.”
With more than 2500 SMEs in the city alone and quite a number of them in IT/ITeS sectors, contributing to the 85% of the city’s GDP fuelling growth. Throwing light on the important snapshot of the event, Singh added, “This year we shall be showcasing the success stories of some of these enterprises during the event named ‘Innovation Walk-through’”.
Speaking more about the Government of Punjab initiative, Rakesh Nangia, Senior Executive Director, Punjab Infotech, said that Punjab has floated prototyping fund to encourage innovation in this region, and already major steps have been undertaken to encourage entrepreneurship by setting up incubation centres in nearly 50 engineering colleges in the state, besides the InnCube in Mohali which has already attracted 9 companies employing more than 80 people, and very soon additional 12,000 sqft area would be added to it.
The region boasts of many mobile and VAS product companies like Bursys Infotech, NetSmartz, Connoisseur Infotech, Nama Solutions, SEBIZ, and Packet Video, which is serving to overseas customers. A Dataquest-CMR survey says that more than 80% of hardwar e and package software business in India is done through these channel partners, and almost 50% of domestic software services are delivered through tech SMEs.
Besides S.C. Aggarwal, Chief Secretary Punjab, other key speakers at the evnt would be two Nasscom’s executive council members, the father of Indian BPO industry, Raman Roy, CMD, Quattro Global Services, and Ganesh Lakshminarayanan, MD, Dell India who played a key role in making India one of Dell’s largest tech support centers across the globe.
